Tiko Kece Taxis was recognised yesterday for helping Police apprehend a man involved in a hit and run accident.
It was a Friday afternoon on 1st December last year when a call was made to the Tiko Kece Taxi base in Nabua Road about a hit and run involving a 12‑year‑old girl in Tacirua.
That call prompted more than 140 drivers registered with the Tiko Kece Taxi base to help chase down the vehicle FJ 079 which was involved in the accident.
The driver leading the chase was 44-year-old Lino Kulanikoro who has more than 15 years of experience as a taxi driver.
Kulanikoro who is from Savusavu says they blocked off the vehicle several times but the driver managed to swerve the vehicle and escape.
The 22-year-old driver who was drunk at the time of the incident was arrested at Richards Road in Domain by Police after he was apprehended by Kulanikoro and other drivers from Tiko Kece Taxis.
Kulanikoro received a Certificate of Commendation from Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho today along with the management of Tiko Kece Taxis.
Kulanikoro has dedicated the award to all Fijians that do good work in communities around the country without being recognised.
