There was no need to track anyone with the CareFiji app – Dr. Waqainabete

Minister for Health, Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete says there was no need to track anyone with the CareFiji app as the close contacts of the two crew members of the cargo ship are 21 government officials who have already been identified and entered into quarantine facilities.

Waqainabete says as a matter of excessively cautious approach, all government officials who had boarded the vessel had worn personal protective equipment as always.

Waqainabete told parliament there are eight quarantine facilities in Fiji with 5,000 individuals.

He says they have tested more than 72,000 people for COVID-19 and people are not only tested at border quarantine facilities but those working at the front-line and people who are fronting up with fever are also being tested.

Waqainabete also confirms they have received 50 purchased ventilators.

He says the RFMF GMC Hospital has been converted into a five-bed intensive care unit specifically left aside for their front-line workers. Waqainabete says if any of their front-line workers get sick and need intensive medical care, they will be taken to this hospital.
