Tear away plastic bags are considered single-use plastics bags and are completely banned – Department of Environment

The Department of Environment has corrected remarks its officials made at a public consultation yesterday with members of the business community at the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission Office in Suva.

The Permanent Secretary for Environment Joshua Wycliffe says it was mistakenly stated at that consultation that tear away plastic bags are allowed for fresh produce, frozen meat products and baked goods.

Wycliffe says they would like to clarify that tear away plastic bags are indeed considered single-use plastics bags and, therefore, are completely banned.

He says they sincerely regret any confusion caused when the above statement was erroneously made.
