National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad says the Fiji Teachers Union and indeed the trade union movement in Fiji has always been at the forefront of the struggle for democracy since 1987.

While launching the book - Education and Democracy: History of the Fiji Teachers Union 1930-2021 at Rishikul Sanatan College, Professor Prasad says he knows there has been disappointment at certain periods of time, nonetheless, the fight for true democracy continues and the FTU and the trade union movement in Fiji has played an important role.

He says this book by Krishna Datt is a testimony to the long history of our teachers and their struggle to not only provide basic education to our children but also their fight against tyranny and injustice.

Datt is an NFP member and political advisor.

He is also a former teacher, Minister and former President of the FTU.
