A taxi driver was found dead in Qalitu, Lautoka at about 3pm today, and the Fiji Taxi Association is seriously concerned about such tragic incidents involving taxi drivers.

Association General Secretary, Ashwin Lal says it is very sad to hear that two taxi drivers were robbed in two separate incidents.

Lal says in this tragic case, the taxi was hired from Ba to go to Lautoka and the car was found in front of the Anupam Theatre area just the next day however the driver was missing.

He was found dead by his family and friends at about 3pm today.

Divisional Police Commander West, SSP Iakobo Vaisewa says they can confirm receiving the report and the matter is being investigated.

He says they don't want to speculate at this stage as it's early stages of the investigation.

Meanwhile Lal is requesting Police to be more visible on the road.

He says this should not only be on the highway but also some of the interior roads which is often used by these robbers who actually know all these places where there are no police officers patrolling.
