Paula Nabuta, Joji Kaitani and Viliame Kanatabua.

Suspended radio announcer Paula Nabuta, a 21 year old student Joji Kaitani and 28 year old Viliame Kanatabua who are charged with being in possession of illicit drugs have been granted bail by the Nasinu Magistrates Court.

Nabuta is separately charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs for allegedly possessing 6.342 kilograms of marijuana on the 28th of September. Nabuta, Kaitani and Kanatabua have been charged with one count each of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

They were allegedly found with 912 grams of marijuana on the 28th of September.

It is alleged that the three were taken into custody after Police raided the car that Nabuta was driving on Tuesday afternoon.

It is alleged several parcels of dried leaves believed to be marijuana were seized from the vehicle.

A further search at Nabuta’s home led to the discovery of more parcels of marijuana.

They have been granted a cash bail of $2,000.

Their bail conditions include curfew from 6pm to 6am, surrendering travel documents and a $500 bail bond.

The Police Prosecution did not object to bail however, considering the amount of drugs involved, they asked for a cash bail of $2,000. Nabuta's lawyer, John Rabuku objected to the amount and told the court the amount may be too much for some of the sureties as times are hard.

Magistrate Sufia Hamza told Rabuku to reconsider the request as a substantial amount of drugs is involved.

The case will be called in the Suva High Court on the 15th of October.
