Students warned about internet dangers and drug links

As the Central Division Drug-Free Awareness Campaign has concluded, students of Saint John Bosco Primary School, Narere Primary School and Basden College were reminded about the importance of avoiding communication with strangers on the internet.

While speaking at the event, National Substance Abuse Advisory Council’s Alcohol and Other Drugs Counselor, Vilisimani Rakikau says parents need to monitor their children’s activities on the internet, especially when they are on the phones.

Rakikau says one of the contributing factors to drug-related issues in the community is the unrestricted access children have to mobile phones at home.

He also reminded students to make positive decisions when interacting with their peers, particularly during the school holidays.

The counselor urged individuals, communities, schools and the government to work together to combat the issue of drug abuse in society.

Rakikau adds Fiji was once known as the way the world should be but unfortunately, this is no longer the case.
