The 2013 Fijian Constitution is now in effect and is the supreme law of Fiji.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama in his address yesterday on the assent to the new Fijian Constitution by the President, touched in parts on the path to the 2014 elections.
Commodore Bainimarama shared where he stands with Fijian voters in the holding of the 2014 elections and on the basis of the new Constitution.
Commodore Bainimarama also identified how stretched international relationships delayed plans to conduct elections early.
President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau in assenting to 2013 Fijian Constitution said that for the first time, under the terms of this Constitution, every Fijian has a voice and is assured that voice will be heard next year without hindrance.
The President added to be credible, the 2014 election must be free and fair - a contest of policies and ideas between the parties and candidates in which every Fijian voter is the final arbiter.
Meanwhile, it was also identified yesterday that close to 540,000 Fijians have registered to vote for the 2014 election with four political parties also having registered.
