All schools nationwide will remain closed this week.

The Ministry of Education says a total of 406 evacuation centres still remain active across the country, out of which 132 are schools.

Close to 14,322 people are still taking shelter due to damages from Tropical Cyclone Ana.

Schools will resume for classes on Monday 8th February 2021 for all teachers, students and ancillary staff.

Many of the teachers are also affected by water and electricity disruptions and most of them are helping their families to clean up and bring normalcy in their lives.

The Ministry says their safety and well-being is equally important.

They are still conducting a damage assessment survey.

Minister, Rosy Akbar says some areas may not have sustained damages from Tropical Cyclone Ana, however a number of areas still do not have access to water and electricity.

She says the welfare of the teachers and students is paramount and they want to be absolutely sure of their safety when they return to school on Monday.
