The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Clinic and Shelter Manager Shaneel Narayan says they aim to register their trained vets with the Ministry of Agriculture to address the shortage of vets in SPCA and in Fiji.

He says these are graduate interns from the local university and have also done their vet SCI program.

Narayan says SPCA currently has a full-time vet from overseas and is looking into getting another one.

Narayan also says they are working on spreading knowledge, awareness and have re-commenced outreach de-sexing clinics on stray dogs through utilizing budget from the government.

The Manager has urged pet owners to think carefully before owning a pet as it comes with a significant commitment and expense.

He is also asking pet owners to exercise greater responsibility and care for their animals by taking them for checkups, getting them neutered , and spayed, feeding correct food, sheltering them from the sun and rain, and keeping them confined to their property to reduce the issue of stray dogs.
