One of the key issues discussed during the meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Co-operatives, SMEs and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica and the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for International Trade, Nigel Huddleston MP, was the importance of reviewing the UK's Food Safety Regulation on Kava.

The aim is to enable Fiji and other Pacific Island nations to export this culturally significant product to the UK market.

Kamikamica met the UK Minister on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Trade Ministers Meeting that was held at Marlborough House in London.

Kamikamica highlighted the immense potential of kava, which holds significant economic and cultural value for Fiji and the Pacific region.

The Ministers also discussed various areas of mutual interest and identified key sectors for potential collaboration.

They highlighted the importance of enhancing trade flows between Fiji and the United Kingdom, with a focus on promoting sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.

The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed Fiji's keen interest in expanding trade relations with the United Kingdom, recognising the significant potential for increased bilateral trade in sectors such as, agriculture, renewable energy, tourism, and services.

He also emphasised the nation's effort in creating a favourable business environment and encouraged UK companies to explore investment opportunities in Fiji.

In addition, Kamikamica acknowledged the UK’s technical assistance delivered through the UK Trade Partnership Programme in assisting the ginger farming communities across Fiji to improve export outcomes.
