Relief supplies from New Zealand and Australia arrives in Fiji

An aircraft from the New Zealand Defence Force and the Australian Defence Force landed in Nadi Airport today delivering relief supplies for Fiji to assist those affected by the recent Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold and response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Minister for Defence, National Security and Policing Inia Seruiratu says, the ongoing support from the two neighbouring countries outlines the Vuvale Partnership that have seen collaborations in previous response efforts to assist each other.

Seruiratu says this donation will greatly assist the Fijian Government in combating COVID-19 and providing immediate response to our families who have been severely affected by TC Harold.

Meanwhile New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji, Jonathan Curr says that there is a strong partnership between Fiji, Australia and New Zealand in responding to needs in each other’s countries and in the wider Pacific region, with all three nations working seamlessly together on the response to TC Harold.

Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes commended the work of the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and the Fijian Government in quickly responding to damage from TC Harold while handling the COVID-19 pandemic, including support for communities in Kadavu and parts of Lau.

The relief supplies include:

1. Hygiene Kits – 1078

2. Kitchen Kits – 240

3. Blankets – 1200

4. Shelter tool kits – 578

5. Sleeping Mats – 1200

6. Tarpaulins – 2857

7. Bed nets – 720

8. Solar lanterns – 144

9. Semi collapsible 50 litre containers – 1000

10. Aquatab water purification tablets – 100,000

Supplies for Fiji’s COVID-19 response include:

1. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Shoe Covers – 8000 pairs

2. Biohazard Refuse Bags – 200

3. Nitrile gloves in Small size – 8 cartons

4. Nitrile gloves in Medium size – 16 cartons

5. Nitrile gloves in Large size – 16 cartons

6. Nitrile gloves in Extra Large – 8 cartons

7. Isolation gowns – 60 cartons

8. PPE Gowns in Medium size – 7 cartons

9. PPE gowns in Large size – 13 cartons

10. PPE gowns in Extra Large size – 6 cartons

11. Hand Sanitizer – 250 cartons 12. N95 Masks – 4000 boxes

13. Fluid Resistant Face Shields – 16 cartons
