Records tumble on day 1 of Coke Games

The battle is heating up as records tumble in day one of the Coca Cola Games.And so far it has been a see-saw battle for the lead in the boys and girls division. We cross over to our News Director Vijay Narayan for the latest.A number of upsets mark days one. Salote Naiula of Nadarivatu Secondary School took the first Gold medal of the 2009 Coca Cola Games in the Open Girls 1500 metres after creating an upset and beating Noela Taqai of Suva Grammar School who was tipped to win Gold.Ratu Kadavulevu School from Lodoni won their first gold medal from a major upset in the Senior Boys Shot Put, where Isikeli Seva of RKS beat Jale Vatubua of Marist who was the favorite in the event. The other upset was created in the Intermediate Girls Long Jump where Vani Tuimoala of St Thomas High School took the Gold, Silver went to Milika Radrotini of ACS and Phyllis Vatucawaqa of Natabua toook the Bronze.The other upset came in the Senior Girls Triple Jump where Milian Wati of St Thomas took Gold, Silver went to Luisa Dakuwaqa of Xavier College and Bronze went to Alisi Naiteqe of ACS.Khalsa College from Ba beat favourites ACS and created an upset in the senior girls high jump of the 2009 Coca Cola Games after Teresia Matina claimed Gold, Silver went to Katarina Yabakidua of Gospel High bronze Alesi Nai of Xavier College in Ba.In the Intermediate Boys Division, looking at the discus throw, Timoci Tuilevu of Ratu Kadavu Levu School from Lodoni claimed another Gold medal, Peofa Tingrea of Marist Brother settled for Silver while Bronze went to Natabua's Nicholas Khan.In the Senior Boys Long Jump: Isikeli Keli of Tilak High in Lautoka took gold while Ratu kadavulevu's Etuate Tabua took Silver and Bronze Savenaca Degei of Ratu Navula Secondary.The Intermediate Girls Shot Put saw another upset with Gold going to Nailaisa Tagiroa of Saint Joseph Secondary, their first Gold medal in the 2009 Cokes, Silver going to Natabua's Ema Saunagali and the Bronze going to Loraini Tabuvou of Labasa Muslim College.
