A 44 year old man who raped and sexually assaulted his stepdaughter has been sentenced to 16 years.

Considering the time he has spent in remand, he will have to spend 14 years in jail with a non-parole period of 11 years.

High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar says when the abuse started the girl was 7 years old and the incidents happened between 2015 to 2020.

Justice Goundar says in June 2020, the girl’s mother removed the girl from the man’s possession through a court order and this is when the girl revealed to her grandmother about the abuse.
