Ratu Sukuna Memorial School Year 13 Student, Panapasa Railala wants to become a nurse because he has always wanted to help others and make a difference in his community.

The Fiji National University recently hosted a successful outreach in the 65th Anniversary Celebration of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Memorial School, held at the Sukuna Park with the aim in motivating secondary school students to explore careers in healthcare and higher education pathways.

Railala, from Vatoa in Lau, says learning more about FNU’s Diploma in Nursing program has made him even more excited to pursue this path and believes he can break barriers and be the first nurse in his family.

FNU Manager Outreach, Ella Bennion expressed her enthusiasm for the event and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting students.

Bennion says it was truly inspiring to see so many young minds eager to discover their future pathways, and she highlighted that their goal is to empower students with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their education and careers.

She also highlighted the value of FNU’s academic counseling services, which help students explore their interests and choose the right programmes confidently.

Bennion says they are committed to fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals and leaders.

The event was especially timely as the application window for the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (CMNHS) undergraduate programmes is open until November, giving students a chance to learn more about their options.
