Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has met the Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Qiang in Beijing to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between Fiji and China.

Rabuka says China will support Fiji's comprehensive infrastructure development which will focus on poverty alleviation, land and maritime connectivity under the Belt and Road Initiative.

He says China’s upgrade of 82 kilometers of Vanua Levu roads is just the beginning of transformative infrastructure projects.

Rabuka says the One China Policy which has been the cornerstone of Fiji’s diplomatic relations where China stood by Fiji when traditional partners turned away after the events of 1987, 2000 and 2006.

The Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Qiang says China’s dedication to poverty alleviation and infrastructure development in Fiji will further advance the Global Development Initiative.

Li says China's commitment is to elevate strong and enduring relationship between the two nations.
