President acknowledges the Return of Writ from Electoral Commission

President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has acknowledged the return of the Writ of Elections from the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Mukesh Nand.

Ratu Wiliame thanked the Commission and the Fijian Elections Office following the general elections and allocation of parliamentary seats.

Based on the results of the elections, the FijiFirst Party has 26 seats in parliament, the People’s Alliance has 21 seats, the National Federation Party has 5 seats and SODELPA has 3 seats.

No party has received 28 seats or more to form a government on their own.

This means Fiji will have a coalition government.

Negotiations continue on who will form the next government.

Meanwhile FijiFirst Party Leader, Voreqe Bainimarama, People’s Alliance and National Federation Party representatives were also present at State House to witness the Return of the Writ this afternoon.

According to the Constitution, the President is expected to summon parliament within the next 14 days.
