Prasad leaves teaching to sell plants, and her sacrifices are paying off

A decision made 14 years ago to leave her profession as a teacher and run her plant-selling business was a decision that Shanti Prasad did not regret and has been paying off.

During an interview with fijivillage News at Fiji Showcase 2025, Prasad says she has been running her business for 14 years and she found liking in planting and selling flowers, herbs, vegetables and also sewing, so she made the decision to leave teaching and become an entrepreneur.

Prasad says her business is named after her grandson Kevin’s Fantasy Garden and she has three kids who support her on the business.

The retired school teacher says she also does whole sales to businesswomen and supports other entrepreneurs who sell plants while also supplying to landscaping companies with big plants such as palms.

She adds that her husband has been retired for four years now and through her business, her family is able to have food on the table.

Kevin’s Fantasy Garden is also one of the businesses operating at Fiji Showcase 2025, and Prasad says customers have been enjoying the flowers on display and so far she has sold over 40 flowers and herbs.

From 2016 Shanti Prasad has been part of the showcase and is grateful for the opportunities, that businesses and companies are given to advertise their products.

Meanwhile, today is the final day of Fiji Showcase 2025 and gates are now open till 9pm at the Vodafone Arena with some great entertainment lined up on the Vodafone external entertainment stage and the Vodafone internal entertainment stage.

On the external stage, Navtarang and Radio Sargam will be having crowd interactions from 10am to 10.30am, followed by the FM96 crowd interactions from 11am to 11.30am.

The VOU Circus Act will be from 11.30am to 12pm, while the Malumu Ni Tobu Kei Naivaukura and the Viti FM’s Dredre Ga Mo Cegu team will be taking centre stage from 12pm to 1pm.

The Navtarang and Radio Sargam team will make their second stage appearance for the day from 1pm to 1.30pm before Wan Squad comes in to perform.

The Paw Patrol Meet and Greet will be from 2.30pm to 3pm, followed by performances from the Tauvu Tribute band and the Viti FM‘s Dredre Ga Mo Cegu team.

Manava Dance group will be performing from 4pm to 4.30pm, VOU Dance group will take the stage from 4.30pm to 5pm, Paw Patrol Meet and Greet will be from 5pm to 5.30pm, and the Legend FM team will then take the stage from 5.30pm to 6pm.

VOU will again make another appearance from 6pm to 6.30pm, before the Ciwa band closes off the entertainment for the year on the external stage from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

On the Vodafone internal entertainment stage, Brazilian juggle PIVA will be performing from 12pm to 12.30pm before the Paw Patrol’s meet and greet from 12.30pm to 1pm.

The VOU Island Adventure crew will be performing from 2pm to 2.30pm, with PIVA closing off entertainment on the internal stage from 6.30pm to 7pm.
