Police warn students after acts of vandalism

Police have sent out a stern warning to all students who are thinking of indulging in acts of vandalism after recent incidents.

Acting Chief of Operations, Maretino Qiolevu is stressing they will not take cases of vandalism lightly.

He says Police cannot be in every bus monitoring and they are asking the public to also look out for such acts.

Qiolevu says as of yet there have been no complaints filed with Police in relation to the alleged vandalism cases last week.

The Operations Manager for Nasese Buses Limited, Nithnesh Prasad says students that had damaged two of their buses last week had ripped off the seats and had thrown them out of the bus.

He says they had just bought two new buses for their fleet and students had damaged one of these buses.

Two buses were badly damaged by students who attended the Triple N Zone and Suva Zone 1 schools athletics competitions at the ANZ Stadium last week.

A few students from Ratu Kadavulevu School had also ripped off the seats of a chartered bus and the school had to bear the costs of the damage caused.

We have also received information that students from Lelean Memorial School were involved in last week’s incident.

We are still awaiting responses from the Education Ministry on what they are doing to curb the issue of vandalism by students.
