About 60 students remain affected after a Rural Service Licence transport operator failed to turn up for a second consecutive day to pick up students travelling to Vunimanuca Primary School, Seaqaqa Muslim Primary School and Seaqaqa Central College.
Parent Mohammed Mustakim of Vunivere, Seaqaqa says students were forced to travel by bus with fares costing $2.60 one way.
Mustakim says many parents are struggling to meet the additional transport costs.
He says if this continues, many parents will not be able to afford sending their children to school.
He says the RSL transport service plays a vital role in transporting students from communities where regular bus services do not operate.
Mustakim is calling on the RSL operator to resume service immediately and is also urging the Government to provide subsidies to RSL operators so the service can continue.
The RSL driver is saying that due to increase in fuel prices he is unable to provide service.
We have sent questions to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection.
They are yet to respond.
