Police have noted a trend where children as young as 14 years are running away from home after they were not happy with something that transpired at home, or after a disagreement with another family member, most often with a parent or guardian.

Police say recently, children have been reported missing from home and found with friends or relatives a day or two later.

They say as awareness continues in schools, they urge parents and guardians to talk to their children about the consequences such actions have, not only in creating unnecessary anxiety for their families but policing efforts directed towards search efforts as they need guidance in their young lives.

Police also urge other parties to communicate with the child’s parents if they ask to stay for an extended period, without any prior arrangements made.
