Police are investigating the theft of a 70-year-old statue of Lord Hanuman from Wailailai Kuti in Ba while the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji says they will also be conducting an internal investigation.

Police say on Wednesday morning, the 68-year-old Assistant Treasurer came to the temple and found out the statue of Lord Hanuman was missing and lodged a report.

They say the 35cm high statue was cemented to the floor.

While expressing his disappointment, Sabha President Dhirendra Nand says this has hurt them a lot, and they hope that whoever is responsible or whatever the circumstances may be, the truth will come before the public very soon.

He says there is a CCTV camera in the temple as well, and he hopes the authorities will look into it.

Nand says they have confidence in the law and order of this country and in the Police Force.

As Shree Krishn Janmashtami concludes today, Nand is urging Hindu devotees not to be affected by this incident.
