Police and Fiji Ports to strengthen collaboration towards crime prevention and security at Fiji’s major ports

To ensure the safety of Fijians as well as strengthening collaboration towards crime prevention and security at Fiji’s major ports, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Ports Corporation Limited.

The MOU aims to enhance collaborative efforts in the areas of crime prevention, intelligence gathering and sharing, investigation, prosecution and overall security at port facilities in Suva, Lautoka, Malau, Levuka, Vuda, Wairiki, Savusavu and any other declared port or ports vested to FPCL under the Sea Ports Management Act, 2005.

Formalising the MOU was the Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and the FPCL Acting Chief Executive Officer Suresh Prasad at Muaiwalu House in Walu Bay, Suva.

The nature of cooperation underlines the need for collaboration in the areas of risk management, operations and compliance within the legislative framework, carrying out joint activities to deter illegal activities and enforce relevant laws, identifying opportunities for greater coordination in relation to training and development and the sharing of resources.
