Bhindi Brothers Limited says they have not issued any eviction notices to the people residing in the squatter settlements in Nanuku and Veidogo in Vatuwaqa.

General Manager Dr Sagar Dhanji says they are negotiating with the government at the moment to relocate the people in living on their land to a different place.

He says they are expected to have a meeting soon.

Dhanji says they have owned the land for about 50 years now and they have been paying rates for the land.

He says they have never charged any rent or any sort of tenancy rates to the people residing there.

Dhanji says they were never able to use the land and they are now planning to set up a subdivision as there is a big market for it.

He says they are planning to do a commercial, residential and industrial subdivision.

Dhanji says they have had consultations with the people but they the relocation process is still being worked out.

Meanwhile, Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum met with the people of Nanuku and Veidogo last night.

Sayed‑Khaiyum has assured the people that they will be relocated to a site in Makoi.

He also says that the government and Bhindi Brothers will assist in this process.
