PS for Education yet to explain whether teachers are getting the salaries as stated by her
Permanent Secretary for Education, Dr. Anjeela Jokhan

Permanent Secretary for Education, Dr. Anjeela Jokhan is yet to respond to our questions sent yesterday relating to concerns raised by Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary, Agni Deo Singh that many teachers are not receiving the salaries as stated by Dr. Jokhan last week.

Dr. Anjeela Jokhan had stated that a teacher with a degree receives $26,000 salary annually while assistant head teachers’ salaries increased from $21,000 to $32,000 annually.

Singh who provided us with 15 graduates’ names who he says have contacted the FTU with their concerns has told us this morning that many other teachers have contacted him about the issue.

Singh says graduates are being paid $22,500 and assistant head teachers are being paid $28,600 annually.

We have also sent these teachers’ employment numbers to Dr. Jokhan.

Singh is asking whether the anomalies will be addressed soonest and backdated to appointment dates.

Dr. Jokhan said last week the Fijian government had increased salaries of teachers and post holders twice in the last 7 years. She says in 2017 following the job evaluation exercise, teachers had salary increases averaging 13% and 25% for teachers in leadership roles.
