OFC Champions League and World Cup Qualifiers dates deferred

The Oceania Football Confederation has delayed the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches for Oceania until June next year.

The OFC has also decided that the group stages of the 2021 OFC Champions League will not be played in February next year. It says the competition will no longer begin any earlier than July 1 next year.

The OFC says it will now work with FIFA to agree upon the World Cup qualifying process and will continue to collaborate with its Member Associations to determine the best steps forward.

It has taken these steps because of border restrictions and limited flights throughout the Pacific due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, the OFC Beach Soccer Nations Cup that was set to be played in Tahiti in January next year will be rescheduled and is expected to take place no later than June 6 next year.

That tournament will decide which country will represent OFC at next year’s FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Russia in August.

A decision on the men’s OFC U-20 Championship that is due to be played in Samoa in January next year will be made when the OFC Executive Committee meets next month.
