The Health Ministry has clarified that Fiji does not import any vegetables, milk or water from Japan which are currently infected by the radiation.
Spokesperson Peni Namotu said all food products imported to Fiji through any port of entry is inspected by the respective government departments including the ministry.
Namotu said there is a collaboration between all government agencies that manifest cargo are vetted by all before the decision on the clearance of goods are reached.
Namotu said Fiji's food imports from Japan is almost insignificant with Products such as noodles , sauce, seaweed(dried) and are imported by only a handful of companies almost 1 per year which is mainly for restaurant use or personal.
He said the health ministry is in constant contact with the World Health Organization in Manilla and also receives briefing and communication of media releases from the Japanese Government.
