New Zealand authorities still want to proceed with the application to extradite Canadian national Joshua Aziz Rahman who was jailed for 20 years after being found in possession of 39.5kg of cocaine worth $31 million in Caubati in February 2019.

The State informed the court today that the New Zealand authorities are even open to Rahman being sent over for the trial in New Zealand and then brought back to Fiji to finish his sentence.

The 26-year-old is wanted in New Zealand on charges relating to the importation of methamphetamine.

Rahman’s lawyer, Devanesh Sharma has asked the court if they could be given two months to prepare their notice of objection.

Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili has adjourned the case to 31st January 2022.
