Lawyer and SODELPA parliamentarian Niko Nawaikula

Lawyer and SODELPA parliamentarian Niko Nawaikula is now facing charges relating to professional misconduct.

Nawaikula’s case has been called before the Independent Legal Services Commission and he will reappear before Justice Daniel Goundar on the 4th of September.

It is alleged that Nawaikula prepared a mataqali trust deed for the conduct of affairs of the mataqali Nabukebuke in Namosi and for the disbursement of trust money received from the iTaukei Land Trust Board.

It is alleged that Nawaikula did not obtain the necessary approval from the members of the mataqali in order to facilitate the formation of the Deed.

Based on this, it is alleged, his omission represents a substantial failure on his part to reach or maintain a reasonable standard of competence and diligence in this matter.

The trust deed is dated 6th May 2009.
