Fire safety inspectors from the National Fire Authority (NFA) have started investigations into the cause of the fire on the Sunbeam bus travelling to Suva at Olosara in Sigatoka this morning.

The bus, which was travelling with nine passengers, including the driver and a bus checker, was approximately 80 percent damaged but there were no injuries or fatalities.

NFA Chief Executive Officer Puamau Sowane has encouraged bus owners to service their buses well and ensure that proper electrical repairs were done by qualified automotive electricians.

Sowane says under the National Fire Service Act vehicles are classified as properties and they must ensure that Fire Safety measures and mitigations are strictly followed for the safety of both Buses drivers and passengers.

He says it is also being noticed that there has been a high increase in road accidents where vehicles especially buses, have been engulfed in flames while on the road.

Sowane has encouraged the public to please quickly call 910 in the event of a fire incident so the firefighters are given ample time to tend to the incident the in the quickest time possible.
