Hundreds of people from nine agencies participated in the tsunami drill this morning in Suva and managed to reach the  Tsunami Evacuation Points within the time given which was 20 minutes.

Employees of the Reserve Bank of Fiji managed to get out of the building within a minute from when the tsunami sirens were activated.

This was also the first time that the Fiji Development Bank staff were part of the tsunami drill.

We asked some people on their experience in the drill.

Some people had a slow start however were pushed to their limits by their wardens enabling them to reach the evacuation point on time.

The agencies that participated in the tsunami drill exercise today included the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, Itaukei Lands Trust Board, Ministry of Economy, Fiji Development Bank, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, the Ministry of Employment and Productivity, the Reserve Bank of Fiji and United National Department of Safety and Security.

Meanwhile, people were stuck in traffic due to the exercise.

The Tsunami Drill exercise started at 11.30am.

The National Disaster Awareness Week was also launched at Sukuna Park earlier this morning.
