Most people are still struggling and trying to make ends meet and it is our duty to help them in these most trying times.

This is the message from the President of the Maunatul Islam Association, Mohammed Rafiq as the Muslim community celebrates Eid-ul-Adha today.

He say today is the day of sacrifice where most of the Muslim community will be giving a share of meat to the needy while people who may not eat meat are given groceries and other supplies.

He says there have been cases where people are now living on the streets and people should come together and assist them.

Rafiq further says most of the restrictions of COVID-19 have now gone so people gathered in mosques in large numbers to celebrate today.

He also paid tribute to the late President of Fiji Muslim League, Haji Hafiz-Ud-Dean Khan

Rafiq says he Khan always supported the poor and the needy and people should walk in his footsteps.

Eid al-Adha commemorates the Quranic tale of Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail as an act of obedience to God. Before he could carry out the sacrifice, God provided a ram as an offering.
