Mother grieves for son

Mother grieves for son
"Love you mummy and take care."

Those were the last words 15-year-old Phillip Abhishek said to his mother before he left with his friends for a swim on Saturday in the Nadi River where he is believed to have drowned.

Abhishek, his 17-year-old cousin and a friend had gone for a swim in the Namotomoto area.

The friend who had accompanied the two to the river raised the alarm and reported the matter to police after he found them missing.

Abhishek and his cousin’s body were recovered from the river after two days.

An emotional Shanti Devi, Abhishek’s mother, told Fijivillage that she spoke to her son on Saturday morning and when she called again around 3pm, she was informed that her son was not at home.

Devi, who stays and works in Suva, said she received a call around 6.30pm and was informed that her only son had passed away.

She added that her son was always jovial and used to keep others happy and he was close to his 17-year-old cousin.

Abhishek, who is a Form Seven student at Mulomulo Secondary, will be buried on Friday.

Meanwhile, the funeral service for Abhishek’s cousin is expected to take place on Saturday.

A post mortem is expected to be conducted on Thursday.
