29-year-old Navneet Pillay’s family left grieving after locomotive accident

A Labasa family is struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of their 29-year-old son, Navneet Pillay who died in a locomotive accident in Vunika.

Speaking to fijivillage News, 59-year-old father of deceased, Deo Nadan Pillay, says the family initially did not know what had happened to Navneet.

He says police arrived at around 6am and showed him a photograph of the deceased on a mobile phone, asking him to identify him.

Pillay says he immediately recognised the man as his son.

He says the family later went to the area where the incident occurred and saw blood at the scene, although Navneet's body was no longer there.

Pillay says Navneet was single and was one of his three children.

He says Navneet had previously worked at Coca-Cola before later working in the industrial sector.

Pillay says he could not say much about what caused the incident, but confirms it happened along the same stretch of track.

He says the headlight of the locomotive was on and there was a large fire following the incident.

Pillay says the family is now left to come to terms with the loss.

Questions have been sent to Police.
