Empowering one person at a time can create a rippling effect and encourage behavioral changes in tackling the rise of non‑communicable diseases.

This is the message from the Miss Hibiscus 2018, Jessica Fong who believes that too many lives are lost to a disease that can be fought through a mere change of lifestyle.

Fong who is a first year medical student at Fiji Natoinal University says after the week long festival, she has learnt to better manage her time between Hibiscus and school to persevere.

23‑year‑old, Fong also hopes to encourage young people to use technology to build themselves and their connections as she believes that the use of social media also comes with responsibilities that people need to be made aware of.

She hopes to spend her day with her family before she returns to school and prepares for the Miss Fiji Pageant.

Fong who also won the Best Sarong Award, will be representing Suva at the Miss Fiji Pagaent later this year.

Meanwhile Miss Sinpoec sponsored by Autocare Nikhat Khan was crowned Hibiscus Miss Charity and first runner up.
