Marist wins Suva Zone 2 title

Marist Brothers High School and Saint Joseph’s Secondary School have retained their titles at the 2016 Coca-Cola Zone 2 Athletics competition. 

Marist won the boys division with 38 gold, 14 silver and 15 bronze. 

Suva Grammar School finished second with 7 gold, 25 silver and 12 bronze while Lomary Secondary School finished third with 4 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze.

In the girls division, Saint Joseph’s Secondary School won with 21 gold, 18 silver and 10 bronze while Suva Grammar School is second with 16 gold, 21 silver and 9 bronze.

Lomary Secondary School finished third with 6 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze.

10 records were broken at the competition.

The Red Fire camp made a clean sweep in the 100 metres and 200 metres finals earlier this afternoon.

Albert Miller Junior won gold for Marist in the senior boys 100 metres final with a time of 11.43 seconds, Keasi Naidroka won the intermediate final with a time of 10.81 seconds, Waisake Nakavu won gold in the junior boys 100 metres final while Lasarusa Senibale won gold in the sub junior boys grade.

Albert Miller Junior, Keasi Naidroka and Lasarusa Senibale also won gold in the 200 metres finals.

Josefa Tabakaucoro bagged a gold medal for Marist in the 200 metres junior boys final.

He also won gold in the junior boys 400 metres event earlier today.

Saint Joseph’s Secondary School bagged three gold medals in the 100 metres finals, one gold medal in the 200 metres final and two gold medals in the 4x100 metres girls finals earlier this afternoon.

Tamara Patrick won the intermediate girls 100 metres final with a time of 12.96 seconds.

Heleina Young won gold for Saint Joseph’s Secondary in the junior girls 100 metres with a time of 12.18 seconds while Leilani Vatubua took home the gold in the sub-junior girls 100 metres event.

Young also won gold in the 200 metres junior girls final.

Luisa Dirika of DAV Girls College took the gold medal in the senior girls 100 metres.                   

Two records have been broken at the Coca‑Cola Suva Zone 2.

Adi Mereseini Waqatoki of Suva Grammar School set a new record of 4.84 metres in Sub Junior Girls long jump event. The previous record of 4.37 metres was set by Raijieli. K of Suva Grammar School in 1995.

14‑year‑old Waqatoki dedicated the win to her father who passed away when she was 2‑years‑old. She took part in the Chow Games last year and won a gold in the Under 13 Long Jump.

Waqatoki had been winning gold in the Long jump event at the Chow Games since 2008.

Josefa Tabakaucoro broke the 400m Junior boys record with a run of 50.39 seconds. The previous record of 52.1 seconds was set by Eroni Cagi of Suva Grammar school.
