A 30-year-old man remains in Police custody after he tried to firebomb Totogo Police Station in Suva earlier today.

Police cordoned off the area this morning.

The man had allegedly lit a fire right across the road leading to the police station, and two vehicles were also parked in close proximity of the fire.

He then allegedly threw a bottle of fuel into the police station.

fijivillage News noticed some burnt clothes outside the police station when we visited the scene this morning.

Divisional Police Commander Central SP Farasiko Matawalu says the man is in custody after he allegedly threw a bottle containing fuel into the police station and in the process damaged some equipment.

There are allegations that the man threw a lit homemade petrol bomb in front of the police station charge room and another unlit petrol bomb inside the charge room.

He has been arrested and is being questioned.

We have asked Police if they have established the motive behind the attack, and whether the Totogo Police Station has fire extinguishers as a video shows that officers did not deal with the flames quickly using an extinguisher.

An officer is seen in the video using a shield and unable to extinguish the flames.

Minister for Home Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua and Acting Police Commissioner, Juki Fong Chew will have a press conference this hour. You can watch it live on our facebook page, fijivillage.
