“E‑ticketing should be adopted to bring more efficiency and transparency”.
These were the words of the former President of Fiji Bus Operators Association, Virendra Kewal while speaking at the Fiji Bus Operators Association 2015 Annual Convention.
Kewal says e‑ticketing was embraced by bus operators but while it looked like it was on its way to being successful after a false start, it has come to a standstill over the past year.
He says they believe a definite time frame should be declared in order for confidence in the system to be maintained.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum stressed earlier in the week that the e‑ticketing system for bus passengers will only start in the country when the interoperability issue is resolved.
This is to ensure that a passenger can use any bus e‑ticket for any e‑ticketing machine.
Sayed‑Khaiyum says three different suppliers ‑ Vodafone, Digicel and Bula Mai Fiji are using different e‑ticketing systems. He adds they are yet to reach an agreement as meetings continue with them.
He also says the government has put in a new law to govern the area of e‑ticketing.
Meanwhile, Parmod Chand was elected as the new President of the Fiji Bus Operators Association yesterday.
