The Land Transport Authority says individuals have been visiting businesses and posing as 'fake' LTA officers to gain access to car showrooms, car rental services and taxi stands.

LTA CEO Samuel Simpson says misleading Fijians is not only highly illegal but also a despicable act adding it erodes faith in LTA which protects the lives of thousands of road users.

Simpson says those who attempt to impersonate LTA officers will be reported to the Police and will face the full brunt of the law.

He is urging people to ask to see the LTA photo ID of anyone who presents themselves as an LTA Officer.

Simpson says if the person is unable to produce such a card, notify the police immediately.

He says if people bring their vehicle to any LTA or independent vehicle inspection agency for roadworthiness inspection, the vehicle could be subject to a quality audit by a second vehicle examiner.

Simpson adds this is to ensure inspections are carried out correctly to ensure the safety and protection of all road users.
