Tourism is a sector that can be explored between Fiji and India as it has great investment potential that will boost the two economies.

Secretary East of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Jaideep Mazumdar highlighted this during the media briefing at the Grand Pacific Hotel.

High Commissioner of India to Fiji, P.S Karthigeyan says it is unfortunate that the number of Indian tourists coming to Fiji is very low.

When asked by fijivillage News what is the Indian Government doing to promote Fiji as a tourist destination, Mazumdar says they are looking to work with Fiji High Commission in India to promote Fiji outside of the big cities.

Mazumdar says India is known for some of the finest hotel chains in the world and if they were in Fiji then it would have attracted many more Indian tourists as well.

The Secretary East further says they are also looking at other ideas regarding investment opportunities such as health, education and agriculture.

He adds Fiji being a major diaspora country, it is important for them to engage with stakeholders, including the government and the diaspora organisations and the community here to further nourish and strengthen the unique cultural linkage.
