Hundreds turning up to cast their vote

Voters line up outside their polling station to cast their votes

Hundreds of voters, young and old have been turning up at their respective polling stations as early as 6 this morning to cast their vote.

Many are braving the hot sun, walking to polling stations determined to cast their vote around the Samabula, Tamavua, Kinoya, Suvavou and Lami areas.

Voters say it took them a few minutes to vote and they are calling on registered voters to come out and exercise their democratic right.

They also say people should not be worried about the lines as it moves really fast and people are done in a short period of time.

Jotame Raisele is happy to have cast his vote at the Suva Grammar School polling venue this morning and has encouraged every registered voters to come out in numbers and cast their votes because it is important for our future generation.

The 85-years-old from Nasese says he was looking forward to cast his vote this morning and woke up at 4am to have his breakfast and make his way to Suva Grammar School at 6am.

He is the first registered voter to cast his vote at Suva Grammer School.

Yalava Village, Seaqaqa resident, Fazlin Bi says as a first time voter, she is proud to have cast her vote.

The 21-year-old says she is voting to choose the next democratic government.

Yalava Village Turaga ni Koro, Inoke Tuco says people should choose a Government that provide security in the future.

He says the difference from last election is that there is a lot more security provided by the Fiji Police Force for voters this time as we focus on the election today.

Seaqaqa resident, Kelevi Bulivou says today is a very exciting day for him and their main focus is to vote for a democratic leadership in our nation.

Bulivou is also urging everyone to come out and vote.

All polling venues are officially open and will close at 6pm today.

Anyone who arrives at the polling station after 6pm will not be allowed to vote.

Supervisor of Elections, Mohammend Saneem says for those who want to know about the free public transportation, SMS their Voter Card number to 1500, and it will message them back with their Polling Venue details, as well as the details of the person who is organizing free public transport in their area.
