Several families have been forced to move to higher ground along the Westcoast road in Wailevu, Savusavu this afternoon as heavy rain has caused flooding in the area.
Savusavu Police officer from Naloaloa village, Corporal Joeli Tikowale confirms that the families had to flee their homes as water levels continue to rise. He said all the root crops have been washed away as well.
Police say the flooded villages include Naloaloa, Naibalebale, Nacodreudreu and the villagers are taking shelter with neighbors on higher ground.
The Nadi Weather Office Duty Forecaster confirms that a trough of low pressure lies over Northern part of the group and is expected to cause rain over the next few days over Vanua Levu.
