Health professionals are aiming to address the challenges of oral health and to improve oral health care in our communities.

This was highlighted by the Fiji National University’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences Dean, Dr. William May during the opening ceremony of the 6th Meeting of Pacific Islands Chief Dental Officers.

Dr. May says oral disease and conditions have been classified amongst other non-communicable diseases as they share common risk factors.

He says it is to ensure healthy lives for all and access to affordable and quality dental care which is crucial to prevent oral diseases and improve overall health.

He adds the FNU will continue to support the Oral Health Pacific Island Alliance to work towards a healthier and more equitable population.

World Health Organization Team Coordinator Pacific Non-Communicable Diseases, Dr Tomo Kanda says it is a great platform to discuss how much progress they have made and to come up with solutions for challenges.

Kanda says oral health is a very close-cutting issue and is important to our health.
