It is now known that 62-year-old Sant Kumari who lost her life in a fire in Namara, Labasa yesterday had run back into her house which was fully engulfed in flames to look for her 5-year-old grandson.

Kumari’s husband, Nirend Prasad says all the six family members ran outside when the fire started but his wife could not see her 5-year-old grandson and went back inside the house to look for him.

Prasad says his wife did not know that their neighbour had already saved their grandson and he was already outside.

He says it was a four bedroom house and the estimated cost of damage is $140,000.

Meanwhile, a house with two separate flats was also destroyed.

It was 10 metres away from the house that initially caught fire.

The house belonged to 65-year-old Gurnam Singh who says they were at one of their relatives house and received a call around midday yesterday that their house was on fire.

Singh says the second flat was occupied by his son and estimated the cost of the damage is $260,000.
