Gender equality is not just a social goal, it is a strategic imperative. When we empower women and girls with digital access and skills, we drive innovation, resilience, and economic growth for the entire nation.

While sharing their message to mark Telecommunication Day, the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji says this year’s theme draws attention to a vital global challenge ensuring women and girls are fully included in the digital future.

Telecommunications Authority of Fiji CEO Prit Chand says true digital transformation must be inclusive by design.

He says Fiji continues to lead the Pacific in ICT development, yet disparities in digital access remain, particularly for women and girls in rural and underserved communities.

Chand says globally, women are still less likely than men to access mobile internet, a digital divide TAF is determined to address through targeted regulatory and community engagement efforts.

The Authority says aligned with their 2025 to 2029 Strategic Plan, they are taking bold steps to expand connectivity through the Universal Service Fund, advocate for digital literacy and online safety, especially among young women, promote affordable and secure ICT access to support women-led businesses, strengthen partnerships with schools, NGOs, and community leaders to ensure no one is left behind.

They say TAF calls on all stakeholders, government, industry, education providers, civil society, and the private sector to unite to build a more equitable digital landscape.

The CEO adds every Fijian deserves a fair shot at success in the digital economy.

He says that means breaking down the barriers that prevent women and girls from accessing technology, developing their skills, and participating fully in the ICT revolution.

Chand also encourages parents and guardians to actively support their daughters in exploring digital and technology education pathways because that’s where the future lies.
