Gavoka calls for vigilance and unity to tackle drug abuse and trafficking

Drug abuse and trafficking are not only criminal issues but also developmental, social, and economic challenges.

While speaking during the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Suva Civic Centre, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka says the nation’s shared goal is to protect its people, values, communities and future from the devastating grip of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Gavoka says that at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, they operate on one critical truth: Fiji must be safe.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of working proactively, not reactively, to safeguard the Fijian people, international visitors, and the national brand — from enforcing safety protocols to maintaining vigilance at the borders and airports.

Gavoka urged the public to help build a Fiji where happiness comes naturally — because it stems from safe communities, secure neighbourhoods, and lives free from drugs.
