Former senior executive of a publicly listed company appeals his conviction

The former senior executive of a publicly listed company who was convicted of indecent assault in December last year has filed an appeal against his conviction in the Suva High Court.

Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili had earlier sentenced the man to 14 months which has been suspended for 2 years.

The court was told that the victim was a flight attendant and the man indecently touched her on the flight.

His lawyer has today told the court that they are questioning the credibility of the complainant.

High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo has asked if the court proceedings in the Magistrates Court was recorded and he wants the video of the victim giving evidence.

Justice Temo says we are all human beings and people usually sway away when they give evidence.

The court was told that it is unclear if the proceedings in the Magistrates Court were recorded.

There is still permanent name suppression for the man.

The case will be called on March 16th.
