Former Ratu Kadavulevu School Principal, Pio Veivoli has told Fijivillage that the incident where a student was brutally assaulted and bullied by a group of students in the school last year was not reported to him.

Veivoli who is now retired says if the incident was reported to him, he would have dealt with it last year.

He says he would have reported it to the Social Welfare Department, informed the parents and sent all students home.

Veivoli says he found out about the incident when he watched the video on Facebook.

Veivoli says he feels sorry for the student that was bullied and brutally assaulted because he also had a daughter who was attending the school.

He says he does not condone any form of violence.

No report to Police about bullying incident last year

Police have confirmed that they did not receive any report last year on the student allegedly bullied and badly beaten up by fellow students in Tailevu as seen in a leaked video.

Questions are emerging on whether the issue was reported by the student to the school, the Ministry of Education or Police.

A student has been questioned by Police as investigations continue in relation to the alleged violent assault. Police officers from Korovou Police Station were at the boarding school on Sunday night and recorded the statement of the victim who confirmed the alleged incident occurred last year.

The disturbing video which is widely being circulated shows a group of students taunting a student who is in uniform and they are then seen repeatedly hitting him with a piece of timber, punching him up several times and swearing at him in the iTaukei language.

Many people are alleging that many cases like this continues in some schools including some prominent boarding schools.

Anyone who can help with information regarding this incident is requested to call Crime Stoppers on 919.
