The Nadi Town Council former chief executive officer Nemia Sedrau has been charged with one count of abuse of office and one count of causing a loss.

Sedrau appeared in Nadi Magistrates Court this morning.

It is alleged that between 1st January and 3rd May last year, he awarded the construction of culverts to Arrow Concrete Limited in violation of the tender procedure of the Nadi Town Council.

It is also alleged that he dishonestly caused a loss to the Nadi Town Council by facilitating and endorsing a payment amounting to $36,000 to be made to Arrow Concrete Limited knowing that a loss would occur and that a substantial risk of the loss would be incurred by the Nadi Town Council.

Sedrau has been released on a bail of $2000 and has been ordered not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

He has also been told to surrender his travel documents and to report to the FICAC office every last Friday of the month.

The case will be called again on 15th January 2015.
