The Fiji Achievement in Media Excellence Awards 2025will take place on 6 December which is especially symbolic as it marks 19 years to the day when censorship of Fiji’s newsrooms happened.

The Fiji Media Council says 2025 FAME Awards will be a full-circle moment, a reminder of the resilience of the media and a celebration of their freedom to tell the stories that matter.

They say this year, the awards received a total of 121 entries across 25 categories, reflecting the strength and diversity of Fiji’s media sector.

The Council says some of the most hotly contested awards include Best Feature Article, Best Commentary, Analysis, Opinion or Critique, Best Coverage of iTaukei Affairs, Best Sports Journalism, Scoop of the Year, Best News & Sports Photography, Young Journalist of the Year, and Best Coverage of a Major News Event or Issue.

Chairman of the FAME Awards Shane Hussein says the judges face a delightfully difficult task in shortlisting finalists and selecting winners.

He says that the finalists will receive complimentary invitations to the ceremony along with digital finalist badges.

He also says that the winners of Radio, Print, and TV Journalist of the Year will automatically form the shortlist for the prestigious Journalist of the Year award.

Hussein highlights that this year also sees the revival of the Fiji Media Hall of Fame, where five individuals will be honoured for their lifetime contributions to the industry.

With only a few tables and sponsorship opportunities remaining, Hussein encourages businesses and media supporters to join what is expected to be Suva’s most anticipated media event of the year.

The FAME Awards 2025 will be held on the evening of Saturday, 6 December 2025, at the Novotel Lami Convention & Entertainment Centre.
